Autumn, it is a time when summer has ended. It is a time when the children are heading back to school and one last trip to the beach.  Everything is starting to get ready for winter.  The leaves are falling and there are seed pods all around as the plants prepare to face the cold season that is approaching.  Once your house is winterized, it is time to consider some craft ideas for autumn.

One craft idea for autumn is to go collect those seeds and pods and use them for making things.  The seeds can be dried, coated in  lacquer and then made into jewelry.  string them on fishing line in appealing combinations and make necklaces. Drill holes through the seeds and the pods and use the pod as a pendant.  They can also be mounted with earring backings and become a nice accessory for young or old. 

Seeds can also be used for various types of decorations and paintings.  The Indians did seed "paintings" and still do, check out the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.  You will find out that the brightly colored seeds can be made into a variety of patterns and then mounted into picture frames.  You can also paste them on Styrofoam balls and make Christmas Tree ornaments.  Each one is unique, just as the seeds are!

There are more things to find and make in the autumn for crafts.  Those vines that die and dry up after the summer are great for collecting and weaving.  You can do something as simple as make loops and then cover with ribbons or twigs and them become wreaths for the doors.  Plait them more carefully and create three dimensional shapes for either yard ornaments or baskets, fill the baskets with pine cones!

Pine cones can be wonderful craft items for autumn just by themselves.  They can be taken and eyelets put in the base to become more Christmas ornaments or allowed to spread and ope to make miniature Christmas Trees for placing around the house.  You can take some of those tiny seeds and use them as ornaments for these tiny trees!

Autumn is also lots of falling leaves, and the leaves can be actually coated and dried to make miniature serving platters or placed on those wreaths and filled into the baskets made from vines.
