With a limited space, it is indeed a challenge for those who want some piece of greenery in their homes. There are still options for those apartment dwellers who wish to grow a garden in a small space. It may be in your patio, kitchen corner, window sill or in a pot. It is still possible to get your green thumb working.
Start small with a few pots of herbs. These are easy to manage and are useful in your kitchen. If you have kitchen counter, prop them up in the space. You may choose whatever configuration you want them best. It can easily liven up your kitchen. The green leaves are soothing to the eyes.
Find a container. Any object that will hold soil can be a vessel to grow some plants. With modifications to allow drainage, such containers are perfect venues for gardening. You can be creative with your containers. Ice cream tubs, milk cans and other packaging that we throw away can be recycled into wonderful piece of art with a few creative touches.
Another option is a boxed planter over a window sill. It is aesthetically pleasing on your window if you grow flowering plants. It will add charm to your small space.
Try succulent house plants. They are easy to grow indoors. Cacti and aloe can hold water for a long time so you need not water them everyday. They can be placed on top of a coffee table and can easily add some interest to a dull area.
How about a terrarium? A terrarium is small enclosure with live plants and animals. It is usually a miniature landscape with small plants and other objects. If you have empty glass bowls or other glass containers, these can be used for the terrarium. It is a nice hobby to start as it required creativity and inventiveness. The final output can be a conversation piece when you have guests over.
If you have no other place for your containers, hang them up. Hanging some plants is one of the secrets of decorating. It can draw attention to an empty corner. It can also hide interior flaws. By picking the right combination of plants, you can easily transform your space into a luxurious abode. Some word of caution: these plants require proper care.
If you can't grow them big, grow them small. Bonsai is a Japanese art of growing trees in small containers. Although it may require skills to grow them, there are ready-made trees where all you have to do is follow the care instructions from the seller.
There are a lot of options for you to start you garden even in a small apartment. All it takes is some free time and the commitment to gardening and before you know it, you will have your little piece of Eden.
