Higher Love: of Being a Servant to God
There is no greater love than that of a servant to God. Those that follow the words of our savior Jesus Christ understand that to be one with God is to serve God and others, all in his name. God has created a kingdom that is great and those that become servants of God will live in his kingdom for all eternity.
Through Service to God, We are Among the Great
Great can have many meanings. In the Western world, one may believe that being great is having a lot of power, money, or material possessions. In today’s society we are taught that to be great we must have things and at any cost. There is no punishment morally in today’s society for getting to the top, no matter how one gets there.
In God’s teachings, he tells us that man is not here to be served, but to serve others. True greatness is found in those that can give up their worldly desires and dedicate their life to the service of others through love and understanding.
To earn the eternal kingdom of Heaven we must be a servant of God and serve others as if they were God himself. If all people in the world treated others as if they too were God himself, the world would be a much more peaceful, loving and understanding place.
In Mark 10: 42-45, he writes: “But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The Need for Servanthood
In order to truly understand God’s teachings, we must embrace servanthood as a way of life. Faith, love, humility and compassion are all taught through the service of others. True service to others teaches us that mankind is weak by himself but strong in a group.
Being a servant to others, or helping others in times of need, makes us feel useful and good about ourselves. When we give of ourselves we learn the real meaning of Christianity. We are all given gifts that we should offer to others when they need us the most.
Giving to others does not have to mean money or things, in fact, sometimes that it is the least someone needs. Many people who are struggling need love, understanding a person who will listen to their problems with a kind and open heart. When someone is in pain, listen without judgment or criticism.
