The championship game between Butler and Duke was one the best games in recent history, with Butler in the championship game everybody was excited especially when its six miles away from Butler’s home stadium. The fans were crazy the building was as loud as a howitzer cannon at full power. There was an electricity in the arena that made all the hairs stand up on the back of their neck, especially the ones betting on the game. When the game started it was to great teams going head to head. The first half was a back and forth game. Even though Butler shot poorly they were only down by one at the break.
The start of the second half was exactly like the first half but the last ten minutes were different. In the last ten minutes Duke and the big three were getting bigger leads. Then Butler would break down the leads to usually three. Butler didn’t make a field goal for a long time but there free throw shooting kept them alive. If Gordon Heyward, Shelvin Mack and Matt Howard hadn’t played, Butler would have had no chance.
In the last three minutes that’s when things got real crazy. The game went back and forth until the last minute when Duke was up by four, Matt Howard scored four straight points to get Butler within one point. Butler had the ball with thirteen seconds left. Butler inbounded the ball to their best player Gordon Heyward drove into the paint then dribbled to the right side and shot a fadeway jumper which hit the rim and bounced out. Brian Zoubek picked up his tenth rebound and got intentionally fouled. He made the first free throw, but missed the second on purpose. Gordan Haywood picked up the rebound and heaved a half court shot which hit the front of the rim and bounced off. All in all I feel the game was really entertaining. Even though the Cinderella didn’t win, everyone was happy about the good game. Other notables are the fact that Kyle Singler made 19 points and won the MVP award. Also Duke picked up its fourth national title. I think we can all agree with Krzyzewski when he said “First of all, it was a great basketball game. I want to congratulate an amazing Butler team and their fans,” I loved the game, you loved the game, and we all had a really good time. I would even dare to say the butler fans had a good time.
