How to make Netflix work

by Tyler Gloe

Created on: April 08, 2010

Netflix is a truly innovative phenomenon that offers ease of use and complete viewing freedom. Their primary focus is to deliver expansive amounts of movies to you without a ton of hassle. If you are unfamiliar with Netflix, it is a movie company that delivers movies by mail or by streaming movies through your computer or gaming system. Depending on the plan, you are able to usually rent as many movies as you want, for long as you want.

If you are worried that it is a scam, Netflix lets you try out their plan for free for two weeks, allowing you to decide if it is right for you or not. To start your plan, simply go to www.netflix.com and click "sign up." The site will guide you through the sign-up process, and will show you the different plans. Some plans offer more movies and streaming time, but cost more, and other plans only allow you to have one or two movies at your house at one time. You can find the plan that works best with you.

The shipping cost is fully included with your plan. The standard plan, costing around nine dollars, lets you keep one movie at your house at one time. You can exchange your movies as much as you want, and keep them for as long as you want. To pick your movies, you can go online, browse through their movies, and add them to what is called your "queue." The movies in your queue will be the next movies that will be shipped to you after you return the old ones.

A useful feature is the "watch now" ability. You can stream movies or television shows through your computer or gaming system such as an Xbox 360. Although the choices are limited, you can watch online for as long as you want. This is a newer addition to Netflix, and the choices for movies are constantly expanding. The web site explains everything that there is to know about your plans and the movies that you can rent.

Overall, Netflix is a useful and intriguing company. It is also relatively simple to use. Simply sign up on the web site, add movies to your queue, line up the movies that you want to receive first, and wait for them to ship your movies. Since there are many locations, it generally only takes a day for the movie to arrive at your house. When you are finished with your movie, simply stick the envelope back in the mail with the movie in it, and wait for your next movie to arrive. In all, it is easy to use and light on your wallet.
