Video gaming has seen somewhat of a revolution in the last 5 years with online gaming being brought to the console generation. Xbox was first to really take hold of the online gaming with consoles and has since been further impacted by the next gen consoles of Nintendo's Wii, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and also the Sony Playstation 3. These new consoles have over 60 million online active members between them their respective online networks of WiiOnline, PSN and Xbox Live.

The reason for such a large expansion in the world of online gaming can be attributed to the high quality competitive games available to play online. Players find themselves playing for hours against online players in a bid to win and gain more xp to become better players. It is an addictive element that has millions of gamers hooked and can lead to them playing for hours and hours on end without a break.

Another indication of its growth is the fact that MLG, the major league of gaming now exists where gamers are paid to play against each other and winners take home prizes as high as 100000 dollars per event. The added benefit of these types of tournaments is that you get to see how players are playing to game and get so good. Some players use modded xbox 360 controllers whilst other just use raw skill and fast reaction times. For players who don't have the fastest trigger finger it can sometimes be more beneficial to them to use a modded xbox 360 controller to increase the fire rate possible.

The next step for online gamers is for 3D games which won't be far off with the rapid expansion of this movie usage and also the release of 3D enabled television screens. If you have had the opportunity to play games on a console, take the next step and have a shot at playing a game online against real people and not computers and you will find it to be at first slightly daunting but after a couple rounds you will find yourself quickly addicted and ready for more fast paced game play. If you have the choice, the best entry level online game console would be the Xbox 360 due to its lower price and large user base online community. The larger the community the better the games get, so in the near future expect to see more high budget games, higher than that of blockbuster movies.

Online console gaming is here and there are millions of players to prove it, each play with their own style, in their own favourite games using normal controllers or even modded xbox 360 controllers. If you are looking to enhance your gaming there are plenty of online gaming peripherals and games that will help you take it to the next level.
