The differences between mom and dad parenting techniques

The fact that parenting trends have changed tremendously over the years isn't that surprising considering just how much society, technology and the younger generation's intelligence has evolved along with the transformations which have occurred. Women's liberation brought about great adjustments to the role that women once played within both the social order and the family unit. Divorce was no longer a dirty word, single parent families become widespread and a new breed of children were born from a new generation that embraced freedom, equality and amazing technological advances which forever changed the face of communication, business and life in general. All of these commodities have had tremendous impact upon modern parenting with the differences between mom and dad parenting techniques now clearly visible due to the new take on raising children.

Children of previous generations were typically raised by females within the family unit which included moms, grand-mothers, aunts and even older sisters with the males of the family being involved in masculine duties. Earlier models of parenting were based upon the authoritarian parenting concept with children generally being seen and not heard. The father or grand-father was the head of the household and women were purely there to serve males; although men were expected to provide and take care of their women folk and children. This has changed tremendously with women now having equal rights and liberty to live life as they choose; but despite their new found freedom most women still carry the burden of raising and disciplining their offspring with fathers sometimes assisting. On the other hand there are also many dads that do step up to the paternal plate. What are the differences between mom and dad parenting techniques? Is one sex better equipped to parenting than the other?

The physical characteristics of human reproduction still see mothers given the primary care-giver role from conception to birth and even afterwards via the necessary feeding and nurturing of the baby. She then goes on to taking wide-ranging care of the child as well as appropriate training in readiness for school and eventual separation from her. Men on the other hand play a secondary but vitally important role in the development and nurturing of children, albeit different to that of the mother. The fact that men and women are wired differently means that there are many differences in their parenting techniques also.
