Free Verse
Is there any such thing as a free verse?
Don't we all try to rhyme, if it's poetry we write?
I know, I know, the fish takes the bite,
And I keep a bit of scribble, inside my purse.
Mostly it's nonsense, I will certainly agree.
This poetry I write, is hardly the thing
To soothe ruffled feathers, or let fancy take wing.
And yet, I still write it, but only for me.
So if you want Wordsworth, you must go to a book.
If Kipling you crave, then just look online.
Truly their poetry is most amazingly fine,
But mine is my own, so give it a look!
If you ask me why I write this stuff, I will say,
Because I can't help it… not because of my wit.
I play with words, and force them to fit,
My definition of order, with words do I play.
Again, I can't help it, every writer surely knows,
That poetry is something every fool must try once.
So, pen down to paper, yes, I feel like a dunce.
But, I am poet, and regrettably, it shows!
