As a Professional Truck Driver, spending from ten to fourteen hours a day upon America's roads, I have honestly witnessed my share of accidents. I have undoubtedly seen, far more than your average American. Whether: fog, rain, snow, or even strong winds, truck drivers are expected to make their delivery on time… and I always did my best, to do just that!
Over the course of ten years, I have witnessed accidents under every conceivable weather condition. These accidents involved: Cars, Trucks, SUV’s, Buses, and Trains and very frequently in multiple combinations thereof.
My most unforgettable was in Pennsylvania, in the winter of 2001, where 19 people died, in a multiple vehicle pileup – under whiteout conditions! Although, it happened directly in front of me, I never got a scratch or a ding on my 80,000 lb truck.
You see, I was that guy with his flashers on, who stayed in the right lane, and drove considerably slower! People should really try Common Sense…. It [honestly] kept me quite safe and sound over two million miles of open road. For those of you, who commute ten to fifteen minutes each day, that's about 200 years of your driving!
More importantly, however, I have often stopped and assisted - whenever I possibly could! Consequently, I will say this about those television commercials, if a highway patrolman has never seen dead people wearing seat belts then, he’s a real rookie… since, it wasn’t even my job, and I’ve seen quite a few! Of course, he could be lying – to make a point… but then, actors will always do what the directors will tell them… it’s their job, after all.
However, seat belts do [in fact] save lives… and sadly, they [sometimes] take them, as well… just like: Airbags, Anti-Lock Brakes, and even Bumpers! Meanwhile, the issue has never been one of human safety.
For if it was, then the States would actually follow their own rules! For instance, South Carolina has thousands of school buses… how many are currently equipped with seatbelts – in 2010?
I once spoke with my local school board chairman and asked why? His answer was that seatbelts lead to death almost as often as not in such accidents… meaning, it really depended upon the situation involved!
He further explained that the driver must primarily focus his attentions on the road and couldn’t stop every single time a child removed his or her own belt… in fact, if they’re doing their job properly, then they wouldn’t even know it had ever occurred.
Wow, that made a lot of sense! Now stop and consider, a single parent on his or her way to: work, home, or school… where, precisely, is the difference? Where should they be focusing their attentions and eyes?
How many accidents occur due to children’s distractions along the way? How many unjust tickets are unfortunately earned, due to our children, unknowingly? I never had considered this logic!
The Constitution was written for a reason. It was to protect your Freedoms and Rights, in Individual Matters of Choice… to prevent the Tyranny of Others in dictating those highly personal choices… and to prevent our leadership from unduly legislating excessive societal oppressions!
Our enlightened ancestors didn’t care, one iota, for opinions… the one page document, governing us all, possessed none! It set up certain: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Powers to lawfully adhere to without question… and, The Bill of Rights, placed our Freedoms and Rights in God’s hands - alone…. Meanwhile, who are you or I, to take them back from Him?
