Poetry: Why I write

by E.A. Paul

Created on: April 05, 2010   Last Updated: April 06, 2010

I looked to the sky, at the gull flying high.

He flew so fast that his belly was shakin'.

He soared so high, and spread out his wings.

I wondered if I could do it like him.

I held a guitar... in my hands.

I couldn't play, but I just pretended.

I was on a stage, the big crowd was cheerin'.

I blew them away, and I left them a-clappin'.

The girl of my dreams...just gave me a kiss.

How could this be, I was standin' alone.

Where did she go? She was part of a dream.

Smoke filled eyes, left me standin' there cryin'.

I wrote a short poem...and I was a gull.

In a story I wrote, I played the guitar.

The girl of my dreams, appeared in my poem.

And all of my wishes, became real to me.

And here are the tales...although they're not real.

I could be anything, in my story or poem.

And here I am now, I just wrote a short poem.

I'm the King of the land, and as rich as can be!
