THE SUPREME COURT
I don’t care who you are or where you grew-up; you have or had respect for THE SUPREME COURT. After all these Justices can tell the President and the Congress that a law they created is not legal, talk about power.
When people are chosen to sit on the Court by the President, they face questioning by the Senate. Then the Senate must vote on the nominee who must receive at least 51% of the vote to be confirmed.
A JUSTICE WILL GET LIFE
Once a nominee is confirmed to the Court, there is no term limitation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TermlimitsintheUnitedSt ates Unlike any other position, it is a life sentence. This is unless the sitting Justice retires, which brings up a very interesting question. Should a sitting Supreme Court Justice announce when he/she will retire to aid his/her political agenda?
It has been known in the past that someone intends to retire, but to make such an important announcement stating that the Justice will retire so that a certain President can choose a person to replace him/her with someone that will maintain a certain agenda is preposterous.
IN THE PAST
It would be naïve to believe this has not been discussed behind closed doors in the past, but reading about Justice Stevens decision, when he will retire and a reason such as the above is given is un-American. Never in my life have I said that a sitting member of The Supreme Court is un-American.
