Many people think about what will happen once they die. That is the question that has remained unanswered for a long time. There are a lot of speculations about that subject and no material evidence. What really happens to us after we die?
Old cultures believed that after you die you go to afterlife and they've buried their dead ones with clothes and tools that will help them in that new adventure. They thought that this life is nothing else but a crossing over to another side. Interesting is that old cultures were polytheistic and yet they've had similar ideas like people today who believe in one God. Why do we all think that there is something after we die?
Death is defined as the permanent end of all life functions in an organism. So how can we experience afterlife if all our senses are down? People who believe in afterlife say that our soul rises above our body and travels to a place where it lives forever. While we are alive, we receive information from our environment through a nervous system. It all goes through our body. And there are people who don't feel pain because their nervous system is damaged. So then how can we feel afterlife if all the organs of our body, not just the nervous system, are dead, don't work anymore? Is the soul energy that powered them up so they can work here on Earth? If that is so then why do we even live on Earth? Afterlife should be the top of our existence. And we still don't know do we even exist after we die.
There are many cases of clinical death when people died and suddenly returned back to life. They say that they've seen the light and that in that point they felt so calm. They say they've seen the heaven, the thing that waits for us after we die. Medical explanation for these events are brain hallucinations in a state without enough oxygen. Brain actually stops working and the hallucinations are a side effect of its shutting down. But there is a time period in which is possible to bring brain back to its function so that a person can be brought back to life. So the light that people see could be a goodbye message. Not a goodbye from this world but a goodbye from a brain function, a goodbye from life.
Religion concepts persuade us that we will be rewarded for life if we obey the religious laws. They say that it is important to believe because faith leads to salvation from death. Although science never excluded religion it gives us reasons and proofs to believe that this is all we get. This life is everything we have and afterlife is a simple comfort for those who didn't make it the way they wanted to.
So is it possible to live after you die? Theoretically yes, but only if you believe. Scientifically no, you are a transient participant in natures course of events.
