Exploring the difference between day trading and gambling

I am sick of people saying the City deals with "investments" when it is no more than a gamble, and so many organisations improve their clients' investments by "gambling" on the stock/share market. Day trading is but one form of investment gambling, and there are others such as futures which are definite gambles.
When you look at the way the trading floor is situated with people shouting in a group, holding up tickets, begging for bets as they watch the electronic board, it is similar to images of large gambling groups in third world countries, where people hold up tickets, shouting, trying to bet, on "fastest cockroach"/"dog fighting"/etc.
When you see these two images one after the other, you know they are both the same.
If I ever had money the last thing I would do is become part of the trading community. I am not a gambler.
