Abolishment of the British monarchy

I understand that Britain's citizens are divided between whether or not the country should abolish the monarchy and a lot of issues arrive when this topic is mentioned. If your not British and planning to visit the country don't ask this question in a pub you will be there for hours.

The Royal Family do not have any influence over the country anymore and have not done for a long time now. They are our figurehead of our country and they appear on the money and stamps of our currency. We listen to the Queen on Christmas day and watch the Queen when there are ceremonies on the television.

The Government runs our country as does every countries. To remove the Royal Family would cost a fortune and why would we do it now when we had King George reign over us when Charles I was executed and his family driven into exile until his son Charles II came back to take his place on the throne.

The topical discussion/debate/history of Charles I v. Cromwell is really interesting if you like history and you like the history of Kings and Queens. I studied this myself as my choice for a presentation and dissertation at college, which made up most of my qualification.

All in all I did over 70 hours of studying on this subject and the amount of information and books out there on these subjects is phenomenal.

The Queen is no threat to the Government unless she wished to oppose a party in the Government, which would be a lot of hassle for everyone involved on the matter.

If she suceeded and did not believe there was a party suitable for her country she could reclaim the power and rule over the country, but this right has not been exercised by any of her ancestors.

The Royal Family is a part of Britain and has also been a part of the world. When Britain had the colonies, a lot of people in England, as in other countries, do not like the idea of giving up their countries heritage and history. To have the Royal Family removed, would not just be taking away a listed building put Britains history for hundreds of years and many more years to come.

As an individual I do not believe that the Royal Family should be abolished. I'm not a hard core Royalist but I do not see why we should abolish the Royal Family, especially as until the 1600's, the Royal Familys word was law.

If you look at law in its history you will still find acts and parts of the law that was influenced by the Royal Family and written when they were in power over the country.

It's a shame that 400 years on the Royal Family is still being scrutinised even though Britain accepted them back after the death of Charles I. If the Royal family chose to remove themselves, then that would be their choice and their right, but to bully them into stepping down is not fair and I am sure that a lot of people would share my sentiment.
