A daffodil went walking
In modest pea-green traveling suit; a hat of buttery frill
Thriving under April’s sky, of transparent blue and cotton
Off to see her sister on concurrent gentle hill
Pretending poorly not to wait
Affixing my thoughts to closer things; plying needle and thread
How lovely to go walking, not counting minute nor mile
Gaily to explore beyond the tended bed
Returning now by vesper bell
Glowing in the fading sun; in gold dust well-attired
Finding flattering company
She is by an elegant shadow squired
A daffodil went Walking
Head bent down in passing; she dared not come inside
To share my lonely flower bed
Where many have withered and died
