It has been a long time since I last uploaded a blog online and I know nobody really misses it but Helium with all the emails inviting me to write again. Well, since we are in the season of Lent, I thought of writing something compelling about religion. First off, I am a Roman Catholic; not really religious but just treading the borderline between devout and nominal. So those who are not of the same bandwagon of faith can just freely close the browser window; but for those who are interested can also opt to read on.
Child abuse and sexual molestation issues of some Catholic priests to children have surfaced again and this is no new tune to the ear. This bedlam that is smearing the Catholic church just refuses to die since time immemorial. The issue is once again resurrected after a new wave of complaints now concerning Irish priests committing the said heinous crimes when they were ‘anointed’ to do God’s work in America. The victims, mostly in their prime now, have explicitly recounted how they were fondled, raped and sodomized by a few of God’s ‘chosen’ men that have left them scarred for life. Some linked their depression and anomalies to these wrenching experiences that have skewed their lives over the years. It is ironic to realize that the very same men who were supposed to radiate God’s love and compassion were the very same men who inflicted irreparable damage and shame to their once innocent souls. The shepherds who were tasked to tend God’s flock had led the sheep off the cliff.
To forgive one’s transgressions is nothing less of a noble thing but to let him slip through his criminal act is also another story. A priest or not, justice should be served if for a criminal act is committed. If proven guilty, they should be defrocked and be put to jail instead of covering up their acts and hurling them to another place where they can continue to breed their sinister deeds. This is where the church failed miserably in handling the situation and instead, preferred to keep tight-lipped about the issue until it snowballed and eventually collapsed. Some are still blinded and treat this as a smear campaign against the Catholic faith but geez, that ship has long sailed! This matter has to be faced now and actions need to be taken before all hell breaks loose. Instead, these Irish priests were reportedly exiled to the United States because of the shortage of priests to do the work but they were also
