We use a term God when we have no other answer. Anything undiscovered that represents mystery for a man will be attributed to God. As an invisible force he will always have impact on our lives because we might never discover everything that surrounds us. Humans need a reasons for their actions. They need to believe that it is all a part of a greater plan. They refuse to understand that things not always happen for a reason. Science explains to us that we didn't came from Adam and Eve, we are a product of evolution that just happened without specific reason. But man as an egoistic creature wants to believe that he is the center of the Universe. And he believed that until he found out that he is just a part of a system bigger and more complex than his mind could understand.
Why God? It's the present force that controls our lives. As strong and independent we might be it's hard for us to take a full responsibility for our actions. We refuse to believe that it is all just a product of interaction between us, nature and forces we haven't discovered yet. So why live without specific reason? It's much easier to believe that this life is just an introduction to something better. But what if this is it, if there is nothing after? God is the unknown which man invented in hard times when he didn't know a better way to deal with life. Man spoke to God, asked for His advice, looked for evidences of His presence. And he explained everything as God, so God became his everything.
Then science came along. She materially proved some things attributed to God, and man lost a part of his faith when he learned to control new discoveries. The more science evolved the more man became aware of his influence on nature and himself as a part of nature. So today we are in the position that people have a psychological addiction to God. They need to believe because what they've discovered through time confuses them. They don't know the meaning of all of this, and they need something to keep them on an exploration track.
The question is: What is going to happen when man learns everything he should know? Will God disappear? My personal belief is that there are no excuses for my actions, and everything I do has an influence on me and on people around me. So, to me, God is an invention that helps the ones who believe to find enough courage and confidence to stand up for themselves in a world designed for failure.
