Poetry: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

by John Conning

Created on: April 02, 2010

"Combat Stress".

Johnnie was a soldier POW In World War 11,

Never used to say much when asked what did he do.

Did not request his medals seemed so quiet at times,

Found it hard to socialise disliked violent crimes.

Married mum had children loved the simple things,

Family was important made us feel like kings.

Never quite just fitted in like we do naturally,

Post traumatic stress disorder died young eventually.

But not before writing down everything in a letter,

To make his family understand leave us feeling better.

Thank you Dad for freedom your gift to all mankind,

Your hurt your pain not in vain a better world you left behind.

P.S. Sent for your medals Dad.

                                                            Your Loving Son. X.
