Star Wars Battlefront is a mission based action game where you can experience many of the most memorable battles in the Star Wars movies. You can play on the Rebels, Separatists (robot army), Empire or Republic factions. Depending on which group you choose, you can fight against Wookies, Gungans, Stormtroopers, Rebels or Robot armies. Missions focus on capturing command posts or eliminating large numbers of enemies.
Difficulty Levels and Modes of Play
There are three levels of difficulty in Star Wars Battlefront: Easy, Medium and Hard. Modes of play include single player, online and multiplayer. If you play in single player mode, you can choose between the Galactic Conquest, Historical campaign and Instant Action options.
When you play the Historical Campaign, you can choose between the Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War eras. However, in this mode you will not be able to choose which faction you wish to play on. The Clone War campaign is set in the time of the Star Wars prequel movies, while the Galactic Civil War focuses on specific scenarios from the original Star Wars trilogy (IV-V).
The Galactic Conquest mode involves a larger, more involving campaign. You travel to different planets and battle enemies for control of the galaxy. You can play on the Empire, Rebels, Republic or Separatists side. Multiple maps are available for help with choosing the appropriate targets. To take control over a planet, you will need to defeat your enemies in two battlefields. As each battle is won, the winner chooses where to attack next. For every planet you take control of, planetary bonuses are received that can help you sabotage enemies or help your troops. After you succeed with four planetary conquests, an ultimate weapon is available (such as the Death Star).
The Instant Action mode allows you select the faction you want to side with as well as the specific battle you wish to play. Areas include Yavin, Tatooine, Cloud City, Endor, Hoth, Kamino, Naboo, Rhen Var, Bespin, Geonsis and Kashyyk.
If you are looking for help, Star Wars Battlefront also offers a Tutorial section. Information is given on the different types of soldiers, command posts, vehicles, weapons, snipers and on specific game scenarios.
Types of Troops and Weapons
There are four types of fighters available in Star Wars Battlefront: Marksman, basic soldier, demolitions fighter and pilot.
Basic soldiers are equipped with a blaster rifle, grenades and a detonator. Marksmen have a pistol, sniper rifle, a recon droid and thermal detonator. The pilot is a useful fighter that can operate vehicles, dispense health and ammunition as well as use a blaster cannon/pistol and fusion cutter. Demolition fighters use missile launchers, mines, a blaster pistol and thermal detonators.
Graphics/Audio
The graphics in Star Wars are okay for PS2. Star Wars movie clips really add to the game. As for audio, voice dialog and music soundtrack is taken directly from the Star Wars movies which fans will enjoy.
Overall Impressions
Die hard Star Wars fans will enjoy this game. The option to play on multiple sides makes it interesting. This action filled game is filled with many familiar characters and battles from the famous blockbuster movies. Although this PS2 game graphics may seem a bit dated (since it was released in 2004), the title may be worth a look.
