Celebrity commentary: Flesh-N-Bone's arrest

Created on: April 02, 2010

Thirty-six-year-old Flesh-N-Bone (Stanley Howse) of Grammy Award-winning group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony went before a judge yesterday morning (March 30, 2010) and pleaded not guilty to 12-year-old allegations of striking his mother with a gun, which left a gash on her head.  He later posted a $10,000 bail and released from jail.

Flesh-N-Bone was arrested Sunday night (March 28) by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office during a Bone concert in Cleveland, Ohio for two outstanding warrants — “Domestic Violence with a Firearm Specification” and “Felonious Assault with a Firearm Specification” —  in January 1999 regarding an incident that occurred in October 1998.

Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s spokesman John O’Brien claims that his department received a tip that Flesh-N-Bone would be in town with his group, and thus converged on the House of Blues to make the arrest on stage, stopping the concert at mid-way.

Spokesman O’Brien also states that “he encouraged the people that were standing on the side of the stage, friends and family and that type of thing, to come on stage in front of him and attempted to dip down and move out through the side door….”

To put more publicity on the arrest, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office reported to the media that Flesh-N-Bone encouraged the fans to come on stage when he realized the plain-clothed officers approaching to camouflage his escape and run.

First, he encouraged his family and friends to come on stage to plot his escape.  Second, he encouraged his fans to come on stage to plot his escape.  What’s next?  He called on the spirit of David Copperfield from afar to plot his escape?  The paradox is not only ridiculous but comical.

The media, of course, runs with the story as fact and ignore the contradiction of the spokesman’s account.

Some reports have even claimed that he was on the run for 12 years?  How can someone be on the run for 12 years when he was in state prison for 8 years?  Such false reporting could have easily been avoided with a quick research which would reveal that Flesh-N-Bone was incarcerated in California’s Pleasant Valley State Prison from 2000 to 2008 for threatening a man with an AK-47.
