Five easy ways to use color therapy in daily life

Colour therapy is, as the name implies, a method of using colour to promote good health and well-being. If it sounds rather strange to think of colour and health, just think of the colour red and try to associate it with an emotion. It is more than likely words associated with anger, exasperation and irritation will have popped up in your head. When someone ‘sees red’, they are not feeling very calm!

Other common associations with colour are ‘green with envy or jealousy’ and ‘feeling blue’ when someone is feeling lonely or down. Based on the idea that each colour has its own wavelength and energy, colour therapists use colour to rebalance a person’s energy and here are some fun and easy ways to use Colour Therapy in your life.

Design a Room Using Colour Therapy ~

Whether wanting to invite romance in your life, enhance your energy or find calm in a stressful lifestyle, you might design a room with colours that will help you achieve your intention. For instance:

Romantic Colours in Design – Choose pinks, soft reds and orange to invite more romance in your life.

Relaxing Colours in Design – To ease stress and feel more relaxed, choose green. This colour represents harmony and balance. Green is also a colour of growth, abundance and fertility. Turquoise and aqua are also relaxing colours.

Happy Colours in Design – To invite happiness and joy in your life, choose yellow, oranges and gold.

Enhance your Creativity Using Colour ~

If you are a writer, artist or a professional that relies on creativity and imagination in order to produce good work, there are the inevitable moments when your muse seems nowhere to be found. In times like these, wear orange, magenta, violet and gold or meditate on these colours to help enhance your creativity.

Avoid Colours that Might be Harmful to Your Current Mood ~

Colour therapy is all about balance. Wearing or surrounding yourself with a colour that might increase a negative mood is not therefore recommended. If for instance you are feeling depressed you might automatically be drawn to dark colours when you should in fact be trying to cheer yourself up with brighter surroundings and clothing. Avoid wearing black when you’re miserable.

Avoid red when you’re feeling angry or impatient, avoid green when you’re feeling envious or jealous, avoid yellow when you’re trying to be serious, avoid orange if you’re feeling frustrated and avoid blue if you’re feeling insecure.

Find Relaxation Through Colour ~

If you’re suffering from insomnia or find it hard to relax your mind, use colour to help you feel more at ease within yourself. Yellow for instance is a colour to avoid if you’re hyperactive and frantic. Colours that may help you sleep better at night are: calming green, turquoise or aqua, blue and indigo. Violet also helps calm nerves.

Enhance your Intuition with Colour ~

Indigo brings a sense of stillness and serenity and this will help you develop your intuition and bring greater awareness of your spirituality. You might also meditate on colours and your interpretation of each colour’s association as a means to enhance your psychic awareness.

Colour Therapy isn’t new; a lot of research has been put into this exciting area of healing but if it is new to you, the above are fun ways to begin experimenting with colours and what these might mean to you.
