Is he a knight in shining armor or a jerk?

by Heather Foster

Many single women in this world find themselves looking for their knight in shining armor. This is a holdover from all the fairytales of Cinderella, Snow White and others. They want a man who will sweep them off their feet and carry them away to a life in a palace where they will be adored, catered to, and never have to worry about anything again.

Not very realistic is giving this dream too much credit. However, these same women will time and again find themselves with either their own exact opposite or someone who is too much like them. A knight in shining armor is a nice dream but lets look at what a knight in shining armor just might be. It isn’t that seeking one is such a bad goal in some ways. However, looking at the scenario from another perspective it can be exactly what many relationship counselors will tell them, just not in the same words.

A knight in shining armor can be one of several types of men. Put in the simplest terms they can be:

To him anything that goes wrong is always the fault of someone else because he feels he can do no wrong. He is childish, petulant and basically a big spoiled brat.

3. A fastidious man that spends a lot of time on little details and doesn't see the big picture. This guy is the one that must always be neat and tidy, regardless of the situation around him falling apart. An arrogant man that is more concerned with impressing people with looks than prowess.

4. This guy is the Hollywood type. A man that is really good at avoiding damage in battle, yet might be really good in battle too. This guy is often quiet but watching how others act, gauging what their next move might be and planning a defense or attack. He not only knows the score, he uses his own scorecard on others. He often has a squire but isn't above doing the work himself.

On the other hand a knight in slightly dented armor, maybe even with a few rust spots can be:

1. An experienced knight that has seen battle and obviously survived and polished the armor where he could. He's good at what he does and
