                                Beauty

She sat there, her huge eyes bright with joy and her hands swiftly packing the thin circular discs of homemade snacks, ’pappads’ into neat piles and into the small boxes to be sent off to places around the world and to be enjoyed by people of all walks of life tied together by the taste of this savory snack melting in their mouths. She was such an expert that she didn't even have to look; her hands seemed to be programed to do the job each time with the same perfection. Maya, you are so quick! Said ,her lanky friend sitting next to her. You pack 10 boxes in the time I take to pack one! OH please stop exaggerating Gita, I am just doing my job! Said Maya without stopping to do what she was doing.

Attention girls! They heard their manager's loud husky voice. “Meet our new supervisor, Jay. Jay, this is your team. From here on you take care of your team's welfare and see to it that they meet the deadlines”. Jay scanned the room to take in the faces he would be meeting and interacting with every day. His eyes soon fell on the timid girl with olive skin, her large deer like eyes darting about the packaging materials lying in front of her. Her Raven black ringlets caressing her lightly blushed cheeks, her lips curved in a slight smile and her slender fingers doing their duty without pausing even to look at the new person. “That's Maya, the fastest worker in our team! And, very dedicated too.” Krish , another worker in his team informed him. “OH I see! Doesn't she ever take a break? I have Never seen her idling away or chatting like the other girls. “Jay mused one day after stealing repeated glances of Maya. “Well, that's Maya for you! Hardworking  and dedicated “said Krish. Jay grew fond of Maya with each passing day, admiring her skill at work and taking in her serene beauty with every passing glance. Her eyes never once wandered away from work. She always sat beside Gita. She walked in at nine, had lunch at noon and was out the door at five .They travelled home by the same bus,  but Maya never seemed to notice jay.

“Poor girl, she is the only earning member in her family and she helps her younger brother get the much needed education so that the family can see better times at least in future.
