How to cover blemishes with makeup

Blemishes are annoying and can crop up at the most inopportune times. Just when you're stepping out on a big first date or even worse, preparing to walk down the aisle, a pimple is sure to show up front and center on your face. They could be anything from a pesky scar, an unsightly mole or a raging pimple or boil. No matter which one is your ailment, there are things you can do to help remedy the problem. Follow these simple steps:

Start with a good concealer.  Concealer that is a liquid and comes with a wand applicator blends easiest. Try one close to your natural skin tone and dab it all around the blemish with your fingertips. It's important not to smear the concealer around. You want to dab and then gently pat until blended.

Next, move on to your foundation. It is best to apply this with a make-up sponge to accomplish the best blending possible. Fingertips are simply to oily to do the best job here. Pour a small amount of liquid foundation on your sponge and again, dab all around the blemish. Powder foundations can work too, but still use the sponge. You will want to continue gently dabbing until all make-up is blended into your skin. Blend the foundation all around your face in order to even out your entire skin tone. You don't want to look like you have just done a "spot" treatment.

Now you want to look for any edges that do not blend. Use natural light and a good mirror with a make-up brush to smooth out any discolorations or thickness.  Cotton swabs or make-up wedges work great.

Finally, to set the makeup that has been applied, use a cotton puff to gently apply some loose powder over the area. Again, choosing a powder close to your natural skin tone is best. Pressed powder can work too.

New blemish concealers are on the market all the time. Keep your eyes and ears in tune for reviews of the next greatest thing. Products are always improving too.  They become smoother, more able to match your skin, containing sunscreen and more. Don't be afraid to drop a little money updating your cosmetics. Older, outdated make-up can not only breed unhealthy bacteria, but it won't perform as well as newer, fresher make-up. So, do yourself a favor and regularly rotate your products. Happy concealing!
