I don't think that fashion necessarily discriminates against plus size women as much as they use to. Being a non skinny woman myself, I know that I am not gonna find suitable clothes at some cheap place like Walmart. But there are more and more plus size stores and brands that have come out to make us larger women look good.
Example #1.... Lane Bryant.
Yes they might be expensive, but you also get what you pay for. Yes you can find a size 18 jean at Target, but it isn't made to the quality of Lane Bryant. Not only are their clothes fabulous looking but they also have underwear for big breasted women also. Did you know that the maker of Victoria's Secret was a heavy set woman, and yet they don't carry anything over a size 36D. I don't know about you but that just doesn't work for me. And how about people like my sister in law how have size 42DD's? Where can she find a good looking bra that also gives support and comfort? Two words.... LANE BRYANT!
Example #2.... Baby Phat
True Mrs. Simmons has made a lot of her clothes for skinny, no butt having women. But she also makes goregous jeans, tops, and dresses for us full figured ladies. I love Baby Phat clothes. You know what PHAT means, right? Pretty Hot and Thick! Now they might not have the selection that Lane Bryant does, but the close are still fashion forward for us women, and they don't make us look like we are wearing curtains.
Example #3.... Catherine's
Now I know what you are saying, "Isn't Catherine's for older ladies?" Yes, it is. Now, I know I am only 23 years of age, but I find value in a store like Catherine's. Where else can i get a long jacket, black suit with red pinstripes? No where but Catherine's. And there are older ladies who are plus size and still wanna look good without all the flash of the clothes for the younger generation.
Never the less, some stores such as Vanity, The Buckle, WetSeal, and all them places do discriminate against us PHAT women by carrying nothing over a size 2. But think about it honestly, doe skinny women fill out a sexy outfit like us plus sizes do? No... why? Because we have hips, booties, breasts, and curves that bring out the sexiness in those clothes!
