Top 5 tips for scrapbooking

by Krystie Bohmer

Scrapbooking is a fun and creative way to preserve your photos. Whether you are a beginner or not you will find that in time these five valuable tips for scrapping will become like a second nature.

1.  Try to get into the habit of taking three photos of each subject matter when taking pictures with your camera. You can take each picture from a different angle or use different settings on your camera.

The reason for this is so that you can choose the best photo out of the three to use in your scrapbook. You may find after viewing the pictures that the first picture had something in the background that seemed to be protruding out of someone’s head. If this happens you will be thankful for having taken those two extra snapshots.

2. When deciding upon which photos you want to scrap, select the ones from the most recent event.

The reason why you want to do this is simple. These events are fresh in your mind. When the experiences you have are fresh, it will reflect in your scrapbook pages. Some of the ways in which it will affect your pages will be ways that you may not even realize. Emotions play a big part in our creativeness. The colors and designs of papers you choose and the whole design of your layout can be associated to whether or not you are feeling a real live connection to your photos.

3. Crop your photos. This tip cannot be stressed enough.

The reason being is that unless there is something in the background that you want others to focus on or something that represents a certain time period such as an old car or a special building, crop it.  Imagine opening up a beautifully crafted scrapbook and seeing mostly photos where the subject matter is only one third of the photo and the rest is showing countertops with groceries that haven’t been put away. Do your photos justices’ crop out that part of the picture. If possible enlarge the picture so that the subject matter is larger and more complimenting to the subject.

4. Get into the habit of having a space for journaling or adding a journaling tag to your page.

The reason why this is so important is because this scrapbook of yours may be passed down from one generation to the next. Unless there is something written about the photos or a story about them, it will be difficult for others to make a connection to the photos. Rather than just writing the date, time and place of where the photo was taken, take a step deeper. Ask yourself what was going through your mind at that particular
