Poetry: Dishonesty

by Leigh Goessl

Created on: March 30, 2010

A liar's truths are smooth
As words roll off of the tongue
It only takes the first lie
For webs of deception to be sprung

A betrayal is often worse
Than the original offense
Instead of owning up to truth
Liars create layers of pretense

Does the phony even consider
The amount of damage done?
Creating trails of deceitfulness
As they hold the smoking gun

Eventually the dishonesty
Emerges and becomes so clear
The betrayed one often realizes
Lies overshadowed all held dear

Sometimes lies can be forgiven
A person given a second chance
If redemption isn't achieved
Cut them loose and take a stance

In times lies are too hurtful to bear
And dishonesty still cuts to the core
If the individual can't be honest
Point them in the direction to the door
