The sparrow comes to rest
The owl leaves her nest
The crickets can be heard
Above the whispered word
Darkness draws around
The not so silent sounds
Of night
Slot machines humming
Clocks hourly chiming
Train tracks reverberating
Constant traffic resonating
Birthing mothers panting
Lover's heavily breathing
Sickly children crying
Hungry babies bawling
The not so silent sounds
Of night
The dog lays down his head
The cat departs her bed
Raccoons fight and scream
A child wakes from a dream
Shadows reflect and resound
The not so silent sounds
Of night
