In order for a website to be successful, it must generate good amount of web traffic.  If a certain website receives few visitors daily, then that website has no value.  It is unquestionably true that there are many ways to drive traffic to your website, but what are the most important ones? This article will discuss five of the paramount steps to drive traffic to a website.

Keyword research

There are four mistakes that many people do at this stage and the result is that they end up having no visitors at all.  The first mistake is choosing keywords that have no traffic.  In other words, very few people type those keywords to get information on the search engine.  The second mistake is choosing irrelevant keywords.  These keywords have traffic but they are not really related to the niche of the website.  These website are likely to be Spamdexing.  The search engine bans them and therefore they receive no traffic.

The third mistake is choosing keywords that are highly competitive.  New websites using keywords like “credit card” do not stand a chance.  The competition in such keywords is very, very high.  The fourth mistake is choosing keywords that are not commercial.  If one wants to sell something, he or she must check the commerciality of keywords.  Does an Internet user typing “writing courses” want free information or ready to buy?

In order to drive traffic to your website, you need to avoid the said four mistakes.  Many tools that will help you with the keyword research are available online.  These two tools are good and free: Google Keyword Tool, and Microsoft Commercial Intention Tool.

As I previously stated, the search engine can ban your website if you use Black Hat Strategies to trick it into giving you high ranking.  So you need to make sure you satisfy it.  To put it differently, make it easier for the search engine to find the topic of your page.  In order to do that, you need to do different things.

First, use your main keywords at the beginning and at the end of what you write on your page.  It is important that you write them in italics or/and bold.  This way, the search engine spider will find what your page is about easily because it scans the beginning and the end of what you write.

Second, you need to name your files. For example, instead of writing: “page 1.html” write “dog-training.html”
