Massage Therapy dates as far back as written records. It was and is used as a form of medical practice. Too bad we forgot that.
Studies show that massage therapy reduces stress. The results are almost instant and often even better the next day. Stress comes in many forms.
There is physical stress, this stress comes from gravity and you know it as poor posture, too much sitting, exercise, working, standing, so just about everything other than lying down.
Emotional stress also has a profound effect on your physical being. This one comes out as worrying, anxiety, guilt, fear and anger. Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone and then replayed it in your head for half a day still angry over it all day long, that’s the stuff that will drain you. When you are experiencing these emotions your body reflects that into a head forward slouchy with rounded shoulders posture.
Nutritional stress is basically a poor nutrient deficient diet. Your body needs vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbohydrates and water. Without a proper amount of these your body wears out really fast, muscles cramp and sometimes lock up like a charley horse.
A massage reduces your heart rate. This would be a great way to put work behind you after a long day and settle into the evening time.
Getting a massage on a regular basis improves the immune system.
Relaxing the muscles through various techniques lengthens the muscle and allows the posture to return to its correct alignment. The more correct the posture the less the effects of gravity.
Often during massage a therapist will stretch you out, this too is a very effective technique for relaxing and lengthening the muscles.
Massage therapy promotes blood flow throughout the body helping spread oxygen and nutrients while at the same time removing waste products such as carbon dioxide and acids, like the ones that make you hurt the day after a hard workout.
Studies done in the workplace showed that having a therapist come to the office once a week reduced absenteeism and improved moral which resulted in a higher productivity rate.
There are even more impressive benefits then the ones listen above.
There was a time for me when I had chronic lower back pain for about ten years, and in that time I sought the help of doctors. Their offered advice ranged from stretching to medications to a needle in my back. I only tried stretching, but it didn’t work so after becoming a massage therapist I received a massage from a coleage. She pushed really
