Every Sunday morning the alarm goes off at 6 am. My husband heads to the shower while I make the bed and get the curtains opened up. Then, I hit the shower and we get our selves dressed, hair curled, make up on and ready for the day. By 7:30 we are out the door and headed to church. Both of us sing in our church choir, and my sister and her family bring my mom to church.
Choir practice begins at 8 am and by the time the choir is seated in the sanctuary my family comes in and sits in their regular pew. Church usually goes an hour or more, and then we all gather as a family, in the fellowship hall with the other congregants and we have coffee and a bite of whatever happens to be the goodies of the day. This is where we plan for the rest of the day and what we will do together as a family.
“Hey Debbie,” starts my sister, “can we work on our wickless candles business today? Maybe we should plan out the next couple of months and the events we will participate in.”
“Sounds good!” I reply. “How much homework does Ally have today?”
“Matt, do you want to go and work on that roofing project today? I know it’s got to at least get the tar paper on before the rains come this week.” Walter inquires.
“So,” my sister interjects, “why don’t you two go work on the roof. Take the boys with you. Mom, Debbie and I will get the wickless candles stuff sorted out and make our stars, then we’ll all meet back at our house for dinner.”
Our Sundays are pretty much all the same. We have our little niches to fill and we accomplish what we can, then have a great dinner together. On special occasions we’ll skip the fellowship coffee hour at church and grab lunch together somewhere, then go our separate ways and work on individual items.
It’s fun to be together and it’s a great way to keep our family close. When the weather is nice we’ll barbecue on the back porch and take long walks around the neighborhood. Sometimes we have soccer games or even street hockey games to attend. For those Sundays we pack up a picnic and head to the proper field, set up our portable chairs and umbrellas to block the sun or wind, and we share our meal as a family.
Our family; we make our own fun and we create special moments out of ordinary days!
