Poetry: Salvation

by Robert Conn

Created on: March 29, 2010

Rain-soaked asphalt glistens by the light of empty promises

Quiet streets disrupted by a single passing car

Deep inside you understand this isn't the solution

But neon signs are telling you that this is who you are

Muffled sounds of chatter, laughter, music at the entrance

As the door swings open, loving couples leave the bar

Beyond the clouds of smoke you see another neon message

A glass or two of happiness will cover up your scar

Suddenly the vocals to the music turn to screaming

Laughter turns to cries of help; the signs to glowing char

The threshold slowly closes as a voice says, "I am with you"

"I wove you in your mother's womb... this isn't who you are."
