The optimum, or best, time of day (or night) for a writer to be productive varies from writer to writer, and even from week to week for many individuals.
For some, it is early in the morning, just after one has risen, before the hustle and bustle of the day takes over.
For others, it is in the afternoon, when he or she feels more awake, less busy, and less rushed, and after the day's demands have been met.
Then there are the night owls, who seem to come alive after the sun has set and the rest of the world is at rest.
I, myself, fall into that last category. I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, which is more commonly called being a "night owl," and I tend to fall asleep well past midnight and I rise sometime around noon. This not something I can easily change, and I manage to get things done at what others might consider odd hours.
My most productive time writing each day comes a bit after midnight. It may be due to my sleep disorder that I get most of my writing done in the wee hours of the morning, but then again, it could be that there are far fewer demands for my time and attention while the rest of the household has gone to sleep.
There are some days that I rise nearer to an hour considered more "normal," and it is on those occasions that I manage to write in the late afternoon and the evening hours.
Even on those days, I still get the uncontrollable urge to write in the very early morning. That is what I have determined is the best and most productive time for me.
Perhaps what all writers have in common when it comes to the subject of the best time for us to be productive is that it does tend to be a bit easier when there are fewer things to distract us.
Once we have already taken care of the errands we need to run and the housework is completed, when others are not so demanding of our time and attention, we are able to be more creative.
We can more easily be productive when we have less worry of our train of thought being interrupted. It is up to each writer to determine when that time may be for him or herself.
