The problems with nationalized health care

So the Health Care passes and sides have been drawn. You either love it or hate it. Well! Leave it to this one to have a couple of words on the subject:

#1 The insurance companies spent $100s of millions to fight the Health Care Bill, (including lining the pockets of congressmen) but now that everyone is supposed to 'buy' it from them, they accept it with open arms. No kidding?

What other industries does the federal government force you to buy their product(s)?

#2  I know that the oil companies have (bought) inspired legislation that has kept certain cars off the road for years. Where are the grass clipping burning cars? The atomic car? The shade tree mechanic specials? OK! The atomic car is far fetched, but bureaucratic red tape has stifled many other attempts.

#3 Don't we have to buy a coffin for the death of family or friend? Isn't that a law? Even if we have a loved one cremated we must still buy them a coffin, albeit a wooden one?

#4 Back to insurance... Have car insurance or don't drive. Sounds reasonable, until one traffic ticket raises your rates $200 - $500 a year. Police cameras at intersections? Sounds like an insurance industry dream!

#5 Seat belt laws. Personal freedom, responsibility, or saving the taxpayers by saving a taxpayer? Yes! Seat belts will save a life..and the life of loved ones. But isn't it our choice to decide to wear one or not? No! The car is not yours... you have to pay taxes on it, register it, license it... you pay for the roads.. that car is not yours!

So you have no choice in how to operate it. The government does... speed limits, traffic codes and seat belt legislation. Want personal liberty? Park it in your garage, shut the door, unbuckle your seat belt, take keys out of the ignition, put hands on the wheel and go "Vrooom vrooom!"

Look! I believe in affordable health care for everyone. But who dictates affordable? Are bank fees affordable when they can be changed at whim? Are oil prices affordable when they can be dictated by a group of small investors on the World Market? Who dictates affordable.

I would have been just as happy if kids (18 and younger) and Seniors were covered universally. But who would pay for that? The insurance industry needed a bail out... it continues to need a bail out.. how much easier is it to bail out an industry when everyone in the country is made to pay?

So OK! Cover everyone in US. At an average of $1500... that comes out to $4.5 billion. Not a bad annual take for the insurance agencies... especially if everyone stays healthy and don't make too many claims. Expect preventative medicine campaign programs to sky rocket.

Maybe outlaw high fructose corn syrup in the process. Why do they want us healthier now? Longer you live before retirement... more premiums you have to pay. Raise retirement age to 72 or older while you're at it! Ouch, grandpa!

OK... End note to all of this... If I am a private restaurant owner and the government (City/State) dictates that for health reasons I cannot allow smoking in my establishment.. I would like to tie in...

No insurance agency may outsource all the paperwork that comes along with all the new insurance policies the Health Care Bill will create. No outsourcing to India or outside of the USA. The country needs a boost in jobs.. here is a good start.

For the HEALTH of the nation's economy... all jobs that deal with the bureaucracy of paperwork must be done here in the good old USA. For the financial health of the United States... this seems a shot in the arm!
