Makeup brand reviews: Cargo

Think about it what's the first thing you pack when you are getting ready to go away? Chances are, if you are anything like Hana Zalzal, you have packed your makeup your precious cargo you carry with you, first. Hence, the self professed makeup junkie named her venture CARGO Cosmetics...and the rest is history.

Starting out as an engineer/marketer/financial analyst may not seem the path most likely to bring you to makeup maven, but it's the path that led Zalzal to CARGO. With the birth of CARGO's first product, a warm/cool opalescent lip gloss called SlinSlan, Zalzal was off and running.

"It's still sort of surreal that CARGO is as popular as it is. I think the day that Dr. Phil gave it to his entire audience was a complete out-of-body experience," recalls Zalzal.

Lots of things inspire their new products talking to makeup artists, how they like to apply color easily and foolproof, traveling (never wanting to carry multitudes of products around when traveling), customer feedback, and how to make makeup better are just a sampling of what contributes to the newest CARGO products.

"I think makeup is a terrific form of self-expression," explains Zalzal. "I have always been fascinated by what colors women choose to wear."

Aside from the great colors, long-wearing formulas and super-portability, CARGO has won numerous awards for its packaging. Take, for instance, DailyGloss 30 prepackaged daily doses of lip gloss in colors that suit every skin tone and age. In a time where lip gloss can't even be brought on an airplane, CARGO can be your savior. CARGO ColorCards, cream eyeshadow embossed onto credit card-sized cards that can be easily slipped into your wallet and brought on board.

But cute and functional packaging aside, CARGO has a cult-following in the celeb arena. CARGO is present on the sets of TV. shows and in the hands of popular celebs such as Courtney Cox (who designed an eyeshadow palette where proceeds go towards her charity of choice), Lindsey Lohan and Sheryl Crow.

But Cox isn't the only star to lend their name for a good cause. A portion of the proceeds from CARGO's collection of celeb-designed lipsticks goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A lipstick that looks great and gives money to children? I think I'll take em all!
