Not only should American Jews support Israel, but it makes sense for American non-Jews to do so as well since Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.

During America’s, and the West’s, Cold War with the Soviet Union, Soviet Russia frequently introduced sophisticated weapons it wished to use against the West to Syria, then Russia’s proxy. Syria then launched attacks against Israel, the West’s proxy. The first target of anti-democratic regimes, then, was Israel as a testing ground for anti-West weaponry. During the Gulf War America threatened Israel if Israel attacked Iraq in an effort to defend herself against the 39 Iraqi-launched, semi-trailer-sized, SCUDD missiles that America forced Israel to “absorb,” and this was long after the Cold War. Israelis waited in absolute horror as day after day another SCUDD was launched from Iraq to the cities of Israel and there were plenty of direct hits, too.

Some of the reasons that Israel is beneficial to the world are her extremely high rate of technological advancements that now rival the United States. That means the more support that America gives to Israel, the more development there is of hi-tech advancements such as extremely efficient and powerful photovoltaic units that convert sunlight into electricity. Israel is also aiming to be the first country to massively promote a total electric car with country-wide infrastructure support. If America would adopt this on even a limited scale it would reduce air pollution and its accompanying maladies such as respiratory illnesses as well as reduce petro-terrorist dollars that are being used to finance terrorist groups through a certain Arab country with a fondness for doing so. 

Israel is at the forefront of medical advancements as well.  Copaxone, an effective medicine for treating multiple sclerosis, was developed in Israel. Israel is also very active in stem-cell research where the first steps in development initially occurred and Israel is now the leader on a per capita basis for articles published in scientific journals related to it. 

Another reason that America should support Israel is because Israel is an island of stability in a sea of undemocratic dictatorships. If Saudi Arabia, for example, should fall to radical Wahhabi fundamentalists, then the West will be at their mercy for their energy needs. This also ties in, again, to lowering dependence on petrodollars that give a strong financial basis to many terrorists groups. 

For the sake of brevity I’ve greatly understated the case for supporting Israel. There are many more examples of contributions to humanity that come from Israel. Anyone can easily see them by googling them.

Jews have additional reasons for supporting Israel. There are many Jews in America who have historical amnesia so they’ve forgotten that during the Holocaust even America blocked German Jewish refugees on the ship known as the St. Louis. In fact, no country in the West would accept them and they were returned to Germany where many of them were murdered. This was blight on the conscience of the West and its failed morality. These Jews had nowhere to turn because there was no Jewish country at the time. Since there is, unfortunately, no guarantee that there will never be another global genocidal attack, it makes sense and is understandable that Jews worldwide will support a safe house against another Holocaust.
