In the city,
It's hard see,
Through all the pollution,
And the populous' monstrosity,
Of self-centeredness,
And self-absorbed calamity.
It's hard to see the single mother,
With her son clung to her side so delicately.
Hard to see the man out of work,
Begging for money because that's how he supports his family.
In the city,
It's hard to see,
Anything that's truth,
Anything that’s loyal,
Anything that's not advertised on TV.
It's hard to see the boy at school,
Trying hard to avoid going home to his father's abusive rule.
Hard to see the waitress on the street,
Putting out just to make ends meet.
In the city,
It's hard to see,
All those who forfeit their dignity,
All those who do anything to keep their boat afloat.
In the city,
It's hard see,
Through all the pollution,
And the populous' monstrosity,
Of self-centeredness,
And self-absorbed calamity.
That's what lies,
In the city.

Poetry: In the city
by Jack Ivey
Street light glare
On puddles wreak
Within the silhouettes
They speak
Of iron bar
And mighty stone
Walls of thick
In
In the city,
It's hard see,
Through all the pollution,
And the populous' monstrosity,
Of self-centeredness,
And self-absorbed
(inspired by Anne Sexton and Janet Caldwell)
I know what became of the place
though it makes no difference to you now.
“Downtown”
Star-kissed light cools each still green.
Oval shapes form identical points.
Blood red down the middle
I look around and see
The backdrop of concrete and steel
Different color faces
Mix and blend
Blacks, whites, browns, reds
