Rolling out of bed, before the sun rises,
still wrapped in the blanket of tiredness
from yesterday.
Ironing the gaily colored preschool outfits,
for the toddler you love so much.
Nudging him gently out of bed, being gentle,
while rushing, to get out the door.
Grabbing the purse, the book bag, and the car keys.
Taking a moment to stuff down your guilt at leaving your baby
for so many hours. Feeling inadequate because this is the best you can
do.
And so the day begins.
