Poetry: Writer's block

by Kim Patty

Created on: March 24, 2010

Patiently my hand is waiting for something to pulse through to the pen it holds and flow onto paper.

My head leans side to side then back and down looking for something, but there is nothing.  Only disconnect between hand and mind.  I am blocked.

For hours, sometimes days my hand waits while my mind roams, lazy and arrogant.

Steady, steady, I think I feel it coming…….then nothing.

Let’s give this a rest.  Close your eyes quite your mind and forget about chores.

Hand…. do not obligate mind.. with your structure.  Mind…. do not waste hand’s time with your childlike detachment.

I feel as if I am stuck in the middle between these two stubborn friends.   I stick with it because I know the magic they create when they work together.

I sit in awe of the two when the channel is open and the magic flows.

I read over their rare collaborations and like a project manager I say, “Good Job”.

Then I steal their work while they go back to opposing their talents.
