Kobe Bean Bryant. No matter how many times it is said, it will never be. I honestly believe that Kobe Bryant will never win the league's most coveted award, the MVP. But, while he doesn't get the recognition, he still is year in and year out the best player in the NBA. He has been since the 2001-2002 season when the Lakers dynasty won their final title.
We could bring up statistics and debate over his and another's, but it's more than just stats. Kobe has a better killer instinct than anyone that has ever played, yes even Mr. Jordan. Kobe has done more with less, even though since The Big Aristotle left he hasn't gotten past the first round. Take a look the player's in the league that are atop the discussion for MVP this year.
Steve Nash - He has a great supporting cast, he also has two all-star players on his team. Mostly, his offense is what is making Steve Nash a MVP candidate. It allows him to rack up assists and rebounds and even occasionally a high scoring game.
Dwayne Wade - Well since his injury, the MVP isn't very likely, but before that he was being looked at as potential MVP material, even though his team was in last place in the Eastern Conference, and they were below .500. He still had Shaq for a few games and even he has a great supporting cast and a deep team with players that know their roles. Also, he is loved by the league and by the referees, his foul calls are like no other, not even Mike.
Gilbert Arenas - Gilbert is a funny guy, but does he really deserve the MVP or to be called the best player in the league? No. His team is in the very weak Eastern Conference and he often times plays against teams that have no one that can guard him and no one that can stop his teams play. He puts up the high scoring games and makes the unbelievable shots. He has much help on his team with CB, also an all-star putting up big numbers and helping on defense.
Dirk Nowitzki - Dirk is a great player, probably the greatest 7 foot shooter the league has ever seen and will ever see. His team has great players on it such as Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard, and Jason Terry. He is on a Championship caliber team and will go far in the play-offs, but he doesn't deserve MVP when he has such a stacked team.
LeBron James and Tracy McGrady - More similar than you think. Both primarily scorers that take over games and win them or lose them for their team. Both have an alright team and an alright supporting cast. T-Mac has done more than LeBron as he is in the Western Conference and his team has a good record for the tough competition they face. LeBron, on the other hand is in the East facing mediocre teams that are tanking for Kevin Durant and Greg Oden.
Kobe is clearly the MVP. He has taken a team and has been a leader to every player on that team. He has shown them what it is like to win and what it is like to lose. He is trying to make them all have a killer instinct such as his and just wants to win. You can see it on the court and you can see it in his expressions. He will do and has done whatever it takes for his team to win. Sometimes the results aren't the best, but he leaves everything on the court night in and night out. Kobe will continue to do what he does.
