Lucifer and the Devil

by Duane Kuehn

Created on: March 23, 2010

Many people confuse the Biblical "Lucifer" and the Biblical "Devil".

Lucifer is an angel of the Lord God, a favored young angel, who selfishly rebels against God.  Lucifer deceives 99 other young angels into following and they run away from heaven to play upon the earth.  Hence begins the universal fight between good (truth) and Evil (deception).

The full story of Lucifer is not printed in most Judeo/Christian Bibles.  The story of Lucifer can be found in the scripture that is called the Book of Enoch.  Enoch, of course, has only a small mention in the Bible as the grandfather of Noah.  The ancient scripture of Enoch surfaced more recently in history, in the country of Ethiopia.

Lucifer and the rebellious young angels are mentioned in the Judeo/Christian Bible as the "Sons of God" who will come unto the daughters of man.  These young angels, not fully trained, reveal secrets of the heavens and, apparently, are the catalyst that leads humankind to eat of flesh.  This eating of flesh appears to be in the manner of cannibalism.

The "Devil" is another thing, a path of deception that Lucifer embarked upon but is not the actual “fallen angel” Lucifer but a behavior of Lucifer's.  Lucifer begins the pattern from which the Biblical "devil" evolves, as Lucifer deceived, and taught deception to, the other young angels that then ran away to the earth.

That which is the "devil" is actually nothing neither more nor less than a personification of "deception" itself.

Much as "Our father WHICH (not whom) art in heaven" becomes personified as a male by the ancient writers of scripture.  These scribes living in a patriarchal (male dominated) society came to personify "God" as being, naturally, a male.

A further personification of evil will occur when one man does not transcribe but invents the name "Satan".  The name Satan does not appear in the original scripture.  In the original Hebrew, the word is “adversary”; Satan is not a being with form but an “Evil” Spiritual influence to be overcome.  This adversary is “de evil” (of evil) and “Evil” is the FRUIT of the proverbial Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  It is selfishness (when it is destructive to others)
