The power of healing comes from within. The problem with that is most people heal from with-out. If you can grasp this theory, you might be able to understand why many people have trouble with healing. I am more specifically writing about healing the heart and the mind, which could eventually lead to healing a physical ailment as well.
Heal: "to provide a cure for; to be well again." How many people can say that they are cured of their problems? To be 'cured' would mean a person may end their sessions with a therapist, they may stop taking their medication, they may stop going to A.A. or N.A., they stop 'masking' their illness repeatedly and finally live in peace with their issues.
Who wants to keep reliving pain over and over again? Most people seek medical attention or group therapy for the rest of their lives without ever becoming healed. This is because they are simply masking their pain. You see, an addict masks his pain with a drug/drink and then they mask the underlying issues with therapy. I'm not trying to say that these concepts don't work. They do. Temporarily. I could see a therapist on a Friday and feel better until Monday, and If I continued to seek therapy, I could feel better week to week or month to month...as long as I keep going. Perhaps for the rest of my life. Is this healing? Because the word 'healing' should eventually mean 'healed', am I wrong? And again, to be healed, is to be cured. Now. How do we heal? How do we get cured? Here we go again. Healing comes from within, not from with-out. We are sick (mentally, physically, emotionally) because of an underlying issue/illness, correct? I think I could talk and talk and talk or take medication until I feel better, but I might never be cured.
Or I could seek out the exact point in my life that made me become in need of a cure. But this may open a door that has been closed for so long that I can't get it open without feeling overwhelming pain and fear and hurt and possibly, a crow-bar. I think Prozac would help me in my day-to-day tasks, it might really get me through the day without having a relapse of depression. But wait a minute...doesn't Prozac mask depression? And isn't depression masking an underlying problem, issue, or condition? I don't want to hide behind a mask, I want to find a cure. Therefore, I am seeking out my underlying issues, I am facing demons that have been in hiding. I have thrown out alcohol/drugs and medications. I have taken months...years...and I have begun the healing process from within, deep within. And I am surviving. And I am happy. And the world has started to become a beautiful place again...slowly...I am becoming myself again. Healing is a power and a gift and it requires plenty of time, patience, and endurance...but it is most definately an absolute possibility.
