I am a mother of four children ranging from 9 years to 2 1/2 years of age. I have never been so confident that natural child birth is the way to go until trying it 3 times in a row. Now, when I say natural I really mean natural without drugs. I always swore that once I had children, I would be completely numb during delivery because I had heard all of the horror stories! I had my first son 9 years ago and I had told the hospital that I wanted every drug they had in fear of feeling all of the pain I was warned about. What had me scared was "the rim of fire". The doctors had administered an epidural, they gave me demorol and some laughing gas. I thought that this was the greatest thing in the world thinking that I would feel no pain. Was I ever wrong! I felt everything to do with that rim of fire and every contraction still as intense as it was prior to being drugged. I had than decided that if I were to have another baby, than I was going to drug free as I had figured that the drugs did nothing anyways.
Two and a half years later, I had my second baby. I alerted the hospital that I did not want drugs unless it was 100% neccesary. They granted my wishes and to my surprise, it was amazingly no different than having drugs.(feeling wise) I did however find that the delivery was much faster, I also found that I had recovered alot faster once I went home. (did not bleed as long, was not as tender as long and so on) I wondered how this could be.
Another two years later, I was pregnant wth my third baby and decided to try the same thing once again and it was all of the same. Better recovery and shorter delivery. Another year from that baby, came my last baby and I went drug free with him also. It was amazing all three pregnancies compared to my first having been drugged. I highly recommend that to anyone who swears by medication during delivery to try medication free! It makes a huge difference for moms delivery and recovery. Take it from someone who has proven this theory not once but three times in a row.
