Short stories: A dream world

The world around me was beautiful and blooming. The wild ferns spewed over the walkway, the plants surrounding were flourishing and the thriving trees took up the sky. Everything was perfect. The colors, the smell; the nature around me was enticing. I meandered around and took in everything around me. Nature had a way of seeming so peaceful, yet it gives no mercy. I continued on my way down the dirt path, touching all of the textures of the plants, letting the aroma of the forest fill my nose.

As I took several steps forward I approached a large lake, it went on for miles and miles, I assumed. The magnificence was overwhelming. The sparkling blue waters gleamed just as bright as my eyes did as they saw this sight. I could live here forever. I wanted to. I stepped up to the edge of the lake and let the sand sift through my toes. This was the feeling of freedom. The sky roared, interrupting my serenity. I looked up, only to see nothing. However, the day seemed to turn from light to dark all at once. The clouds rolled over and the thunder shook the earth below my feet. Before I knew it, the lake was covered in an array of rippled water. The rain drenched me. The birds stopped chirping, and the trees were still. All was quiet but the weather. Something mysterious was upon me, and I grew frightened, yet curious.

Out of the water rose a giant creature. I could not explain the fantastic features on this animal. As he surfaced the water he carried what seemed to be a significant being. He approached me and gently placed the spirit near my toes. As he laid her alongside me, I noticed her scaly skin and pale face. Her expression was blank as she lay limp. The giant’s eyes were filled with a distraught look that could soften any heart. He took my hand, and placed it on his chest. Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I waited for what would happen next. He signaled for me to close my eyes, and as I did I saw into his heart. Although we spoke different tongues, my mission was as clear as ever. I needed to save this spirit, for she was the life of the nature around her. Without her, there is no nature.

My love for this place was already so strong; I would do anything to save her. I ran through the forest, clearing my path as I ran as fast as I could. The silence was intimidating. I approached a mountain, like the one I had seen through the giant. I started to ascend and eventually made my way to the top. The land was still striking, I could see all around me. The forests, the lake, the grasslands, and hilltops. The first just as beautiful as the next. I was told to look for a sign, but I still didn’t understand. I looked all around, and a specific boulder caught my eye. I don’t know why, but this rock seemed significant. After several blasts the boulder was destroyed. Inside was a tiny crystal.

I took the crystal and went, I bounded down the mountainside and trip through the forest. Then I reached the beach, and showed my discoveries to the giant creature. He appeared to be overjoyed, and took the princess in his hands. I watched carefully out of curiosity. He grasped the crystal and her wrist in his hands. The crystal interlocked with her bracelet magically, and the color returned to her face. Simultaneously the frogs started croaking, the birds singing, the crickets chirping, the fish jumping, and the trees swaying gracefully in the wind. It seemed as if the crystal brought the life back to the spirit of nature. She joined her friend in the water and they joyfully descended. The world seemed happy again, as if nothing
