“You shouldn’t throw sand at people.” Hanna pointed her thin finger at the chubby little boy sitting next to Charlie. Charlie just sat there in shock. The husky boy ignored her and filled the spade in his hand with sand, again throwing the sand in Charlie’s face. Charlie’s eyes fluttered in amazement and his mouth dropped open. Sand shot out of his nose when he began to snort and cry.
The temperature dropped sharply that afternoon, leaving only a few stragglers at the beach. An old couple near by was shaking off their towels before they walked off.
A rather large man was sprawled out on the sand just on the other side of where the two boys sat in contention. Jim’s nose was buried in a book and he paid no mind to the incident.
“Did you see that, Jim?” Her eyes were wild with anger.
“See what?” Jim looked up to see his wife very upset. “What happened?”
“That chubby little boy just threw sand in Charlie’s face again.” She pointed her finger at the boy.
The husky boy picked up another spade full of sand. The boy smiled at Hanna then tossed the sand again at Charlie.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She looked over at Jim who was now amazed himself. “Do something.” Her teeth ground together as she hissed. Jim stood up and marched over to the heavy-set man on the bench.
“I think you need to do something about your son!” Jim’s thin frame stood over the hefty man.
“They seem fine to me.” The heavy-set man laughed and pointed over to the two boys. The husky boy had yet another spade full of sand and was about to throw it as Charlie picked up his spade and smacked the husky boy in the face. The husky boy’s nose began to trickle blood.
