The first thing lifestyle change that I believe is necessary is how you think! For years the Diet Industry has lied to us. Promised us quick fixes and made us feel as if we were the problem with their diets, the reason why they failed to help us accomplish our goals. Made whole food groups taboo and told us we had to do all sorts of weird things to lose weight. While you may have to consume fewer calories in order to lose weight, you do not have to starve yourself, in fact that is counter productive causing the body to go into conservation mode and slow your metabolism down.
If you want to lose weight and keep that weight off you are going to have to think a lot more. Become more aware of the foods you are putting into your mouth and what goes into their preparation. Educate yourself as to what is a better choice and what is the best choice, and think about those choices you are willing to make.
The changes you make should be ones you can live with. Diets often make certain foods off limits or taboo, which has the effect of making us want them that much more. Who wants to say they can never have their favorite taste treat ever again? To give it up for the rest of your life. But I bet you would be willing to indulge in that taste treat less often or in smaller amounts. You are in control of everything that goes into your mouth and it is your choice whether it is a candy bar or a piece of fruit. If you opted for that candy bar it doesn’t mean you are a failure, you simply made a choice and are willing to live with the consequences of that choice. Your success isn’t dependent on that one choice but on all the choices you make each day. As you make better choices, your overall success will grow. It does get easier with practice. Which is why thinking is such a large part of any lifestyle change you want to make.
You will have to be more aware, more conscious of what you are doing. While what foods you are eating will be a part of that, you will also have to think about when and why you are eating. Do you wait too long to eat? Not give yourself enough time to eat? Do you eat late at night or when your are not even hungry? Do you eat in response to stress or emotions? Do you plan your meals or eat whatever is handy? Before you make any changes at all you may want to keep a food diary so you can have a realistic picture of all your habits. What are the good things you are doing along with the bad.
Food may not even be the problem that you need to address,
