Brute honesty is what made 'American Idol' saucy judge Simon Cowell popular. With that in mind, 'American Idol' executives may realize that they should not try and fix what's not broken. Just like the spirit of Paula Abdul living within Kara DioGuardi's presence, the show can not go on without someone who has that raw forward honesty and a ear for quality music. With the decades Howard Stern has accumulated under his Radio DJ career belt, and his curt honesty, Howard Stern has what it takes to give "American Idol" viewers another 9 seasons.
From the influence that Simon Cowell has had on 'American Idol' viewers and voters musical opinions, you can sum up that viewers really appreciate someone telling it like it is. In recent media, Howard Stern got backlash for his comments about Oscar Nominated actress Gaubrey Sidibe and how her weight in Hollywood will leave her without further roles. Whether people like it or not, Howard Stern was saying what many people were afraid to mention. Howard Stern has the knowledge of what works and what does not work in Hollywood. Howard Stern has seen artists and performers come and go within his over three decade career span. While the one hit wonders have come and gone, Howard Stern has consistently had a job because of his point of view. Before there was Simon Cowell, there was shock jock Howard Stern, so it only make's sense going forward.
With out the raw uncut honesty of Simon Cowell's critique, 'American Idol' will just be another reality competition with vague integrity that doesn't really challenge it's competitors. With so little shows that honestly push the real talent, talentless instant celebrities will continue to be accepted as a norm. In order for the artists on 'American Idol' and shows alike to improve their artistry, there has to be a judge that doesn't play mom or dad, but rather an honest detached stranger. People who are honest in essence can help people grow. While others may sugar coat one's progress, the honest detached person says what is on everyone's mind but most is afraid to say out loud. Simon Cowell simply says what no one else wants to say, and so does shock jock Howard Stern.
Looking towards the future of 'American Idol', I hope the show keeps the musical integrity it currently conveys. Whether it's with Simon Cowell or Howard Stern, the artists that participate in this competition needs someone who is honest and always detached. The artists need a person that can be open and up front about the competitive singer's performance. With Simon Cowell leaving, America can look forward to Howard Stern's honesty and radio experience to refresh 'American Idol' and continue to make American dreamer's dreams come true. 'American Idol' is now a part of what is American Culture, just like in Hollywood, sometimes all it takes is a little face-lift.
