When the original Kindle was introduced by Amazon back in late 2007, it was hailed as the next great advancement in technology and one that Amazon had the lion's share of the market in. However one group has felt left out in the cold since the Kindle introduction and that was the many Mac users worldwide. Well those same Mac users can come in from the cold now as on March 18, 2010 Amazon released the much anticipated Kindle for Mac software that had been rumored for sometime. Was this software worth the wait? Let us take a look inside both the good and bad of this exciting new software from Amazon.
First, let us call this software what it is. Amazon has owned the ebook market since this Kindle's inception and is intent on keeping it that way. With the advent of different competitors arising and the mighty shadow of the Apple IPad, which itself is ebook capable, Amazon needed to do something to keep its stranglehold on the market. By releasing this software, the company hopes to prevent its users from being swayed away from the Kindle for one of the other competing technologies. Whether it has accomplished this, only time will tell.
Let us talk about the good things about this new release. First off, it is a free application download for Mac users with OS X 10.5 Leopard or higher. You can't beat that price! What does this software give you? It now gives Mac owners the ability to buy and download over 450,000 books from the extensive library of selections from Amazon. The other big kicker is that the Mac user can now do these things without needing to purchase any of the other Kindle products such as its Kindle 2 which can run you around $260 or the even more expensive DX hardware that has a shelf price of close to $500. Again significant cost savings for someone who has always wanted the Kindle capability, but not the Kindle price tag.
Don't you hate when you’re reading and forget to mark your spot then return and think, "Where was I"? Well forget those days as Amazon has included its famous whispersync technology with the Kindle for Mac. This allows the user to basically mark their place and then sync it over all of the possible Kindle devices they have. This makes it possible for them to always have that favorite book with them and never forget where they left off. It is another ingenious inclusion with the Kindle for Mac.
This is not the end
