STAN THE SOLDIER
Stan the soldier, though old, wore his battle scars well
From a distinguished career that spanned twenty years
His memory still flooded with those distant primal fears
As he sits next to the roaring fire he hears a distant shell.
In the wardrobe hangs his war beaten, precious Great Coat
With blood-splattered mementos of those bygone glory days
Hidden away from his grey brow-beaten thoughtful gaze
Of gruesome tales he cannot muster the strength to quote.
The numerous medals which decorated him ever so well
Now lie in a faded pack along with his ammunition
Laden with dust as he wrestles with this living hell
Contemplating moves to complete his lifelong mission.

Poetry: A soldier's tale
by Ed Coet
DISTANT WARRIOR
I get this wondrous chill as night falls
in mountains or desert sand
and I find myself dreaming about
home,
The drums call out to me
On the distant horizon
I cannot help but be drawn to them
They lead me to my fate
Do I really want
Mama's boy they laughed and teased
Son don't worry time will come when this will cease
She kissed his skinned knee and his
"Daddy’s Boots"
Little girl in the mirror
In your mother’s shoes
And in your daddy’s green hat
Little girl
I am a Soldier on the battle field
Today I killed for the first time
I took away a life to save another and myself
Its kill
