Is peace on Earth realistically attainable? Indeed the adverb " realistically" sets the pace forward: it cannot be so. From a religious point of view based on basic solid values like fraternity, brotherhood we can all praise an ideal in terms of peace that should cover the world gently under its dove-wings. From a philosophical point of view there cannot be any superior man to an other man, whatever His race, colour, size, religion etc...
Given the above, the question is now why Peace could not be realistically attainable ? Such is the meaning of the article title. It also implies that it could be attainable (easily I would say with reference to paragraph 1 above) but would meet such obstacles that such a vow would remain an ideal and just a prayer.
Let us pause and see whether Peace is easily attainable within a community. Let us forget for one moment about the philosophical statement that indeed men are brothers and should never combat each other, but rather build a world of peace and happiness.
Even within a community things are not so easy and because of local conflict on powers, pressures from and between politicians, conflicts between groups, poverty, wealth, noise, pollution etc.. peace is not a firm factor. Over a community are other communities making up a City, then a region, then a State etc.etc.., and the original "little" community problems are amplified to such an extent that conflicts of no real importance can become major issues. Different religions, different interests on national issues, plans, targets, allocation of funds to some and not to others, lack of money, mis-splitting of powers etc. etc., may make Peace not attainable.
An elementary law reads that any problem solved gives birth to a new problem. So, assuming, issues like drinking water, allocation of powers, a better democracy be implemented, there will always be someone somewhere who will come up with a better idea and an other ideal, shedding some oil over the ashes and making a bigger fire of the past issues, thus pushing Peace to farther unattainable limits. Such is the origin of many conflicts on Earth, whatever the reasons from the two sides ( there are always at least two sides in a conflict).
"Realistically" is therefore an adverb that sets in question the intelligence of mankind: are we sufficiently stupid to consider that Peace is not so important after all (even though we claim it definitely is) or are we not so intelligent as we cannot make Peace come
